Alaska's national preserves and parks will not disappoint if you're looking for pure wildness. Alaska is a refuge for adventurers, with incredible vistas and an openness that does not exist in our modern world. But, for the most part, you will have to work for it.

If all of Alaska's national parks were combined, it would be the 14th largest state in the country, covering massive quantities of land. Few have roads to them, let alone through them. Thus they necessitate a level of planning that other parks, such as Yellowstone and Yosemite, do not.

Whether by boat, plane, or car, you'll see an undisturbed landscape where civilization merely passes through once you are there. Explore glaciers and volcanoes on the same day, or travel to places where the sun never sets, and rivers cut through the vast plains.
