10 x Best Places to Visit in Greece 2022

Last Updated On December 02, 2022

With its plethora of ancient ruins, whitewashed towns, sunny beaches, delectable cuisine, and welcoming environment, it's no surprise that Greece ranks among Europe's top tourism destinations. However, the reason tourism occurs in the first place is due to the area's beauty. That beauty is frequently found on the many dispersed islands that lie like small diamonds in the Grecian peninsula's waters. Each has its unique collection of beautiful landscapes, historic landmarks, nightlife scenes, and cultural attractions.

There are many of these to be uncovered. From the western Ionian islands of Kefalonia and Corfu to the Aegean Sea islands of Mykonos, Santorini, Kos, and Rhodes, to name a few. To the south, there's Crete's pre-Hellenic Minoan culture. There's enough god-like landscape to be found on the mainland. Meteora Monastery, Delphi Ruins, and, of course, Athens and its magnificent Parthenon. Some of the best places to visit in Greece in 2022 are as follows:

1. Santorini

The Santorini archipelago, located in the Aegean Sea, attracts visitors from all over the world. Santorini is a popular destination for weddings and honeymoons. It is on the wish list of anyone looking for a romantic, sunny location that blends leisure, well-being, gastronomy, and tradition.

Oia, easily identified by its white buildings with blue domes and emerald ponds, provides travelers with a beautiful, timeless moment for a romantic holiday. Santorini has an airport, and however, if you don't have direct flights from your city, you can fly to Athens and then take a domestic aircraft to Santorini.

2. Athens

There are few cities on the planet with as much history as Athens. This city spans the ages as the cradle of democracy and the originator of Western civilization. This bustling city is a must-see and is most certainly the best city to visit in Greece overall.

This Athens district is located immediately below the Acropolis and is a terrific area to people-watch, shop, and eat. Stroll around the cobblestone streets, taking in the artisan shops and eateries.

Athens is brimming with Greek culture and boasts breathtaking landmarks such as the Parthenon and the Temple of Zeus. Don't forget to stop by the Plaka neighborhood.

3. Crete

Crete is Greece's largest island in terms of geographical size and population. It's the size of a small country and doesn't have the same island vibe as Santorini and Mykonos.

It takes a week to scrape the surface and two weeks to circumnavigate any significant way. The lovely seaside town of Chania, complete with adorable eateries and boutique shops, is the highlight of a visit.

4. Meteora

Meteora is a cluster of 24 monasteries on cliffs, one of Greece's most spectacular UNESCO World Heritage sites. Six of them are open to the public. They are linked by pathways and staircases rather than the ropes and baskets used by monks in the past.

The settlement of Kalampaka, with its charming Old Town in the shadow of the area's magnificent rock formations, serves as the gateway to Meteora. Spend time in town admiring the ruins of ancient temples and a 10th-century church.

5. Delphi

In Delphi, the sun's rays stream over the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia in the early morning, creating a magnificent atmosphere. Looking out over the Gulf of Corinth, it's easy to see why the ancient Greeks chose this as the center of their universe. Only three columns of the majestic sanctuary survive today, yet they are enough to make your imagination run wild.

6. Pelion

Pelion is a stunning Greek region located on the Pelion Peninsula. It is a lovely five-hour trip north of Athens to another prominent Greek city, Thessaloniki, in Northern Greece.

Tsagarada, Makrinitsa, and Milies are just a few of the breathtaking settlements atop Pelion, which are located between Athens and Thessaloniki.

7. Zakynthos

Zakynthos, known as Zante, is one of Greece's most famous tourist destinations. The chaotic nightlife at Chania Town, Malia, and Stali and breathtaking natural landscapes attract travelers from all over the world. It is one of the most famous summer vacation island destinations globally.

8. Mykonos

Mykonos is, without a doubt, Greece's most worldly island vacation. It is famous for its party lifestyle and is one of Greece's most popular tourist destinations due to its stunning beaches, iconic windmills, ancient architecture, and spectacular views of the Caldera.

If you want to visit Mykonos, be prepared for an unforgettable nightlife experience. Every summer night, it is converted into a beautiful party destination.

9. Nafplio

You might be surprised that Athens was not the Greek state's initial capital. When Greece obtained independence from the Ottoman Empire, it was the much smaller town of Nafplio.

10. Corfu

Corfu, one of the most cosmopolitan Greek islands, is one of the most famous places to visit in Greece for its energetic nightlife. It is a luxury resort in the northern Ionian Sea with many fantastic places to stay.

It has the most glorious beaches in Greece, with either white sandy or gravel coastline, and boasts the blue seas of the Ionian Sea. You can reach the island by plane. But the long road trip is the perfect way to arrive at the beautiful beaches of Corfu after a breathtaking drive.
